Outpatient multimodal pain therapy
Chronic pain changes people. According to current estimates, there are around 8 million chronic pain patients in Germany. In other words, people who have been suffering from pain for at least 6 months, many of them for years. If initially there was "only" a localised defect, chronicity means a vicious circle of pain, pain-intensifying relieving posture and psychological impairment.
Constant pain means stress: it leads to tension in relationships and families, conflicts at work and a lack of drive or exhaustion.
If the pain takes on a life of its own, it is important to identify the individual causes of the pain and to scrutinise previous standard diagnoses. The aim of diagnostics at the Schmerzwerkstatt München is to create an individualised pain map for each patient. The various causes of pain must be discovered and understood by patients and doctors alike. The common basis for this is the Munich back pain model and the bio-psycho-social model of pain chronification.
In the case of various interrelated sources of pain, a single therapeutic approach with Medication, Syringes or Movement therapy do not work. The term "multimodal pain therapy" stands for a combination of different complementary forms of therapy. Based on the detailed initial consultation and the various findings, the individual treatment modules must be tailored to individual needs.
In addition to physiotherapy and exercise therapy sessions, recognising and reducing stress factors of various origins is of crucial importance. This is the only way to achieve the goal of reducing pain and improving quality of life at the same time. Depending on the individual case, we will give you tips on various relaxation methods such as yoga, autogenic training or progressive muscle relaxation - also taking your health insurance into account. This is because you can expect to be reimbursed for some courses.
We follow the principle that outpatient therapies precede inpatient treatment. For most of our patients, this means that they can remain in their familiar surroundings. However, if the patient's state of health deteriorates, multimodal pain therapy under partial or full inpatient conditions may become necessary. In this case, an 11 to 18-day inpatient stay in a specialised pain clinic is required. Day-case treatment is also possible in selected cases. We are happy to recommend suitable clinics in Munich and beyond. We will support you in arranging timely appointments and in clarifying cost approval from your health insurance company.
