Workshops on radiofrequency therapy (11 CME points each via the BLÄK)

When conservative methods reach their limits, thermal denervation as part of radiofrequency therapy can provide lasting pain relief in suitable cases. This minimally invasive method interrupts the pain transmission to the brain with pinpoint accuracy. It is generally assumed that the successful basis of therapy for any chronic pain condition requires a bio-psycho-social disease model. Successful pain reduction is the product of a logical treatment mosaic in which different, complementary treatment strategies are applied at different points in the treatment pathway. Radiofrequency therapy represents a possible treatment component and corresponds in essence to a symptomatic therapeutic approach.

In addition to the correct selection of patients, this procedure includes the implementation of the measure that fulfils the necessary quality standards. As  European Training Centre for Radiofrequency® the Schmerzwerkstatt München offers a defined curriculum for the proper implementation of these procedures within the framework of workshops.

The following core competences are taught:

  • Knowledge of the clinic and conservative treatment of the most important clinical pictures, such as lumbar facet syndrome.
  • Basics about the technique, implementation and risks of radiofrequency therapy.
  • Patient selection criteria: performance and assessment of diagnostic blockades.
  • Practical skills in performing radiofrequency treatments: Importance of the intraoperative stimulation test.
  • Tools for assessing the success of treatment and integration into the further course of treatment.

The next radio frequency workshop will take place on
